Uncomfortable
I really shouldn’t be complaining – right now life is going great – but all the same, it could be better. This 32 degree heat (humidex 38) in September is the first thing I’d change. What’s up with the weather in this city? I put up with the heat all summer, and now that it’s fall, it’s telling me that I have to suffer through more of it? That was never in the agreement… To go from using (and needing) my -12 degree sleeping bag on the weekend to a restless sweaty sleep last night with temperatures around 23 (H 30) just isn’t right. I know I harp on about the temperature a lot, but it is something that’s important to me, I’m a warm-blooded creature (some even say “hot-blooded”) and so my body supplies all the heat I need, there’s no need for the weather to go over 20! At least I don’t get to India until October…
That in iteself is another part of my current discomfort, I’ve more than my share of shots before, but that doesn’t seem to matter much in the face of my upcoming adventure. So I now have 3 more microscopic holes in my forearms, bringing the damage from this round of immunizations to 5. The good news is that I’m all set now, but my arms are still a little tender, and putting on my backpack requires a little care/caution now. The funniest thing was that as I was waiting at the clinic to get this latest bunch of shots, I suddenly felt a little tingling soreness on my arms where I got my injections last week. Oh the wonders of the human brain…
And finally, while I had a wonderful time this past weekend, I have to admit that having people standing on my shoulders for two hours left some visible scars, and once I get my backpack past the injection sores on my arms, I have to worry about it resting/rubbing my bruised shoulders. Having worn that backpack nearly every day this summer, it seems strange that it could hurt like that, but that’s the price you pay for helping those poor lame frosh get their tam (otherwise they might well still be there!). Its also given me an appreciation of why gymnasts wear those little slipper shoes, and not things like the army boots that were on my shoulders.
On the plus side, at least I’m no longer feeling the effects of my squash game last Thursday – it’s a good sign that I’m still young and all these minor pains will pass – hopefully before I go play sqaush again this Thursday. Look out Ryan, you’re not going to win quite so easily this time!
