Full Circle

That’s it folks, my trip is officially done. I arrived back in Dehradun last night and am spending a few days with Rupi to recover/get organized for the next step – work! – which starts on Monday. Looking back at it, it’s hard to believe that I was gone for a month, feels just like I left yesterday. Again I find the comment “Time is such an amazing concept” appropriate.

In looking at this website, I’m honestly kinda disappointed with myself about the amount/frequency I wrote, in the 4.5 weeks of my adventure around western India I really didn’t write anything about what it was that I did. Now that I’m back though, I have my own computer and control over my writing time/environment, so I’m truly going to try to sit down and write about my adventures (and oh yes, they are numerous!) so you can appreciate a little more what this country has to offer. At the least I’ll do a summary post about where I went and one paragraph about it (in the next day or two), but idealy I am goign to try to really write out some details – all the interesting stuff is in the details. So stay tuned, and keep checking the archives (and the little sidebar ntoifying you all what I’ve written lately).

The other thing I get to do now is go through my photos. I took a lot of them, but never really kept track, just dumping them onto my wonderful little portable hardrive when the camera’s memory card got full. I hadn’t looked at any of them (with the exception of the Diu beach picture) and so I was also curious to see how they turned out. So as soon as I got back last night, I grabbed my computer and started the process of transfering them over. That’s when I found out that in my 4.5 weeks on the road, I managed to take over 1200 photos (nearly 6GB!). I’ve looked through them all quickly and all I can say is “Wow!”. Ever time I see a photo, I’m mentally taken back to when/where I took it, and so today as I’ve been sorting/editing them, I’ve been reliving my trip. Resolves any doubts about whether or not I actually went. Some of the photos are absoutely astounding (even by my standards) and there are many others of note, it’s going to be a really hard job to narrow them down to a selected few to post here on the website (I wish I could put them all up, though I don’t think I have space to and it would take FOREVER over this slow modem!). Given that I’ve spent several hours on the photos today and haven’t even gotten a quarter of the way through them, it’s going to be a little while before I get them online for you all to enjoy, but I will try to get them up as soon as I can (hopefully before the end of the weekend). Stay tuned.

So this evening, I’m off to go meet with Ravi to talk about what I’ll be doing at PSI, where I’m going to stay and basically sort out mylife for the next 5-ish (?) months, we’lll see what happens, and I’ll keep you all posted.

I look forward to seeing the “highlights” of six gigs of photos. Though I would hate to have to select which ones to post if all you have is dialup for uploading. Good luck with your new “job”. Hope all goes well in Dehradun.
